What is this newsletter about?
The purpose of this newsletter is to share with other what I have learned about the vast, emerging field of innovation studies. My aim is to engage with other practitioners to also further my own understanding and skills in this area.
Every successful technology that becomes an innovation passes through the valley of death – that phase of a technology’s development when costs soar, uncertainties are high, and revenues are futuristic at best.
The intent of this newsletter is to explore technology development from a broader context that includes the specifics of the technology, the nature of the company or organization that wants to advance the technology, and the broader regional environment in which the organization operates.
The interplay between these different levels is what makes this challenging and why I decided to start this newsletter.
A quote from Earl C. Kelley summarizes how I feel about the field of innovation:
We have not succeeded in answering all our problems. The answers we have found only serve to raise a whole set of new questions. In some ways we feel we are as confused as ever, but we believe we are confused on a higher level and about more important things.
